Part 3: Changes to the Earth

The focus in this part of the unit is for students to learn about how erosion and weathering change the landforms and bodies of water on our Earth’s surface.

Day 1: Introduction to Erosion and Weathering

Watch video:

Discuss Vocabulary: Weathering (breaking down) and Erosion (taking/carrying away).

With a partner students will review “Scholastic Study Jams” by watching the “play the video” and then completing “test yourself”.

If students have additional time they can play the “Shape It Up game”.

Day 2: Slow vs. Rapid Changes

Partners will watch either “BrainPOPjr.com Fast Land Changes” or “BrainPOPjr.com Slow Land Changes” . Students should review their video by taking the quiz.

Then students will create a poster that shows their learning about fast or slow land changes.

Each partnership will present their poster.

Day 3: Review

Watch: Crashcourse Weathering and Erosion video and/or Rae’s Weathering and Erosion video

Utilize Smartboard lesson to review the different ways land can be changed. To access Smartboard lesson: go to “Smartboard Exchange”, search “what changes land” and download lesson:

Students will then complete“Weathering and Erosion Matching”

Day 4: Erosion Lab

“Erosion Lab Directions”

Use the following lab reports for students to record their findings: “Lab Report Form” or “Modified Lab Report Form”
