Part 2: Landforms & Bodies of Water

The focus in this part of the unit is for students to become familiar with the landforms and bodies of water on our Earth.

Day 1: Landforms

Display “Landforms” on the board to activate prior knowledge and discuss.

Have students watch:

Students then play the Silent Match Game. Each student will receive a card, either with a picture of a landform with name  or a picture with definition. Students will walk around silently looking for their matches. (“Landforms Match Game Cards” – You can also follow the directions for the match game, as an alternate to the last activity for Day 1)

Students will then complete “Landforms Cut and Paste”.

Day 2: Landforms (continued)

Review landforms by watching BrainPOPjr.com Landforms video”. Discuss and complete quizzes.

In small groups, students will create a poster of the following Landforms: mountain, valley, plateau, hill, peninsula, island, volcano, plain. Groups can decide how to display these on their posters.

Day 3: Bodies of Water

Display “Bodies of Water” on the board to activate prior knowledge and discuss.

Have students watch:

Students then play the Silent Match Game. Each student will receive a card, either with a picture of a body of water with name  or a picture with definition. Students will walk around silently looking for their matches. (“Bodies of Water Match Game Cards”  – You can also follow the directions for the match game, as an alternate to the last activity for Day 3)

Students will then complete “Bodies of Water Cut and Paste” .

 

Day 4: Bodies of Water (continued)

Utilize Smartboard lesson to review the different types of Bodies of Water. To access Smartboard lesson: go to “Smartboard Exchange”, search “Bodies of Water” and download lesson:

In small groups, students will create a poster of the following Bodies of Water: ocean, wetland, waterfall, lake, bay, pond, strait and river. Groups can decide how to display these on their posters.

Day 5: Assessment Project

Review with video.

Students will then complete Clay Replicas of 3 landforms and 3 bodies of water.
